In October i visited a friend in Jutland and on my way home I went to see my parents. With me home I brought the only to frame saws left from my grandfathers workshop. When I was six years old he promised me that one day I would get one - and finally over 30 years later I inherited the last remains.

I've been refurbishing them and to some surprise I really like working with them. Even though it is very logical I never thought about the fact that the blade on a frame saw cannot bend and thus easily makes straight cuts with a slim blade that doesn't get stuck.

I recently attended the 40th birthday of one of my friends that I've known for more than 20 years. He's an illustrator and giving him a purchased gift simply seemed wrong.
Instead I decided to do a glued-up board using pieces of "scrap wood" that I had laying around in the shop. Its a combination of 4 sorts of wood: oak, beechwood, mahogony and an unknown one. During the process I became unsure of the result so I decided to also include a board of pure oak.
But after shaping and applying oil to the piece it stood out as both unique and beautiful. I'm very happy with it and has cut up wood to do a box inspired by the same idea.

See pieces take form and give permanent meaning even if “the power is turned off”. Feeling and seeing wood from a raw state and take form it into a beautiful piece of furniture that solves its purpose.

For me woodworking started as a hobby were I could use my creativity to solve practical problems at home. Missing a chair – needed a place to put my hat – making a cabinet for a HIFI amplifier or building a table for me to sit with the computer. But I also found something else: it’s the creative field were the picture in my mind and the final object are the same – it is as if I “feel the wood” and we work together in forming beautiful pieces – one part design and idea, and another part feeling the wood in the workshop.

Over the last years I have been making a lot of projects and I simply can’t fit all the pieces into our small apartment anymore. To me each piece is much more than a piece of furniture. It’s a piece of hand made unique art of incredibly high quality and every single one comes with its own history and feeling.

Originally Yunika started as "Touch me. Feel me. Love me." but after massive critique from friends not being able to remember the name I decided to work on a new one. Yunika is a contraction of the words "Yunīku" (Japanese ) and "Unika" (Danish) both meaning unique. The idea evolved with help from many people from my vietnamese childhood friend to a brazilian friend living in England with contacts in Japan. To me it encapsulates my work perfectly: Unique danish design using many japanese hand tools.

I can also help you with crazy creative ideas, interior decoration and restoration of old furniture.

Furniture restoration
Sometimes you have an old chair with a lot of history and that you really love. It is worn out and doesn’tlook good anymore. You could let me take a look and maybe I can help you restore it and make it just as good as new.

Interior decoration
Interior design is about creating the perfect balance between detail and order. Creating spaces in space, mixing old with new, selecting the right colors and mixing materials. I am a master in optimizing small spaces creating both room for living and a warm cozy atmosphere.

Crazy ideas
I love to take on challenges and trying out new ideas. Recently I have been doing some work in concrete and combined it with wooden constructions. Shelves cast in concrete on a mahagony construction and making ethanol fireplaces. These are just a couple of ideas, so if you bring your own I can help make them come to life.

Woodworking and craft projects are my passion - my secret place where I find peace and something tangible in this fast paced world.
Trying out new ideas and being creative is the essence and thats why my primary “product” is custom designs.
You get something truly unique - not just a piece of furniture - but a story and a personalized unique piece taking your preferences and needs into account.
The process differs from project to project but it will typically involve these overall steps:

Getting to know you - a personal meeting were we at best visit the place where your new piece is to come to life. We will talk about ideas, materials and your personal preferences.

Sketching and sampling - I will go back and play with the ideas. Based on skethes and material samples, etc. I will suggest a design - or couple of design ideas for you. We will talk about the ideas and agree on next steps.

Actual design drawing and proposal - After agreeing on the overall idea, materials, sketches I will make you a real proposal with more detailed design drawings, material examples, a visualization of the final product and a price range. This is where you really sign off.

(Miniature model) - Depending on the projects complexity, if I am unsure about parts of the construction or need to try out ideas - or if you choose to see a minuature before sign-off - I will make a small model of the actual project.

Production - I will make the actual product and if you wish I will share pictures and progress during the process. Sometimes when the materials are presented in the workshop it actually “tells its own story” or creates new ideas. In these cases I will share those for further discussion.

During our recent trip to Milan I worked on designs for a new chair using a new way of weaving the seat - the overall idea being to add an extra wire from the bottom to create rounded support for the back.

Today (and we came back Yesterday) I did this small miniature to test the method and the shape.

Going back to the beginning and why I got into woodworking in the first place - almost two years ago I made a plywood cabinet for this amplifier (see the blog post here) and ever since I've been working towards having the skills and the time to build "a beautiful" cabinet for it.

The cabinet is made of rare redwood that my local wood store had in stock. It has been colored with a palisander stain and layers of laquer has been applied.

Basically the timber was split in two, planed and then glued together in the "whole length" to allow the grain to "run around" the cabinet.

It doesn't look like much - it just looks like a nice case for an amplifier - and it is. But it also signifies the progress that I have made as a woodworker and I consider it a cornerstone in my development.

One day when I came to the workshop I found a big lump of wood nicely giftwrapped on the table. My girlfriend had stumbled upon it when coming home wit the train - and carried it all the way home (and it’s heavy!). I think it was one of the best gifts I received for christmas.

Its a tendency that has grown over the last six months where my friends have started picking up wood that they have come across and given it to me as presents. It really makes me smile and feel good. First of all it shows that they understand part of my passion and think of me - secondly it gives the pieces that come out of that an even stronger story.

The downside is the drying time - my workshop is overfloated with wood that needs to dry for at least three to six months before I can use it - first world problems…
